- If one phase of a delta connected alternator is reversed, the resultant voltage in the mesh will no longer be zero but will be double the phase voltage.
- This voltage will set up a high current, even without any external load, that will damage the windings.
What is delta connected alternator?
It is considered as the delta connection in a three-phase alternator when all three phases are coupled together to form a closed-loop system, as in the image below. The circuit has a triangle shape due to the fact that the three phases are joined in a delta connection.
There is no common point available like the star connection. Only a three-phase, three-wire arrangement is used in delta connections. The fourth wire is never provided here.
1. There is no neutral point in the delta connection.
2. Phase voltage is equal to the line voltage.
3. The line current is root three times of the phase current.
