What is Aluminum ion battery?

  M. Hasan

Principal concept of Aluminum battery:
  • Aluminum ion battery is a types of rechargeable battery in which aluminum ions serve as charge carriers.
  • Aluminum can exchange three electrons for each ion.
  • Like all other batteries, this type batteries include two electrodes conducted by an electrolyte.
  • In most electrolyte, Aluminum forms a complex with chloride and produces an anionic mobile charge carrier, usually AlCl4 or Al2Cl7

What is Aluminums charge?(Aluminium charge)

Because aluminum is a metallic element, it is located on the left side of the Periodic Table. For these elements to achieve a "inert gas configuration," electrons often have to be lost. The group III element aluminum is located in the third row of the periodic table.

Therefore, it has the arrangement 2,8,3. As a result, it has to lose 3 electrons in order to adopt neon's inert gas configuration. Therefore, the ion's charge is 3+.

Advantages of aluminum ion battery.

  • The aluminum based rechargeable batteries offer the possibly of low cost and low flammability with high capacity.
  • Aluminum's inertness and ease of handling in an ambient environment potentially offer significant safety improvements.
  • It have the potential to be smaller in size and may also have more charge-discharge cycles.
  • Thus, Ai-ion batteries have the potential to replace Lithium ion batteries.
