What will be happened if DC voltage is applied on Transformer?
" The answer is transformer will be damaged due to higher current flow through the primary winding than the rated full load current"
Explanation
Why it will not work
- As we know that the transformer works on the principle of Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction so it will work at only AC supply not DC supply.
- Faraday's law mansions that to induced the voltage on the secondary winding of transformer the alternating flux is required.
- For creating alternating flux we need alternating current that means AC power supply.
Why it will be damaged
- The resistance of the winding is very low so as you apply the DC voltage then high current will pass through it.
- This passing current will be more than the rated current carrying capacity of the winding wire/cable.
- Hence, as a result the amount of heat produced will be greater than what it can withstand.
- Because of this the insulation of primary winding will get burnt and the transformer will get damaged.
